Thermodynamics I
This course introduces thermodynamic principles; open and closed systems representative of engineering problems; and first and second law of thermodynamics with applications to engineering systems and design. Topics include: thermodynamic concepts, thermodynamic properties, the first law of thermodynamics, first law analysis for a control volume, the second law of thermodynamics, entropy, second law analysis for a control volume, and irreversibility & availability.
Refrigeration Systems
The goal of this course is to introduce different refrigeration systems and componants to students. They will also learn how to do the refrigeration load calculations.
Design and optimization of thermal systems
The main goal of this course is to provide a fundamental understanding on how to design an optimum thermal system. During this course students will understand the difference between designing a workable system and designing an optimum system and will learn how to apply principles of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics to design an optimum thermal system components. They will also learn how to formulate and analyze optimization problems and apply optimization techniques in design of thermal systems.
Graduate courses
Inverse Heat Transfer
In this course, students will learn to formulate and analyze ill-posed inverse heat transfer problems and apply inverse heat transfer techniques to solve them. In addition they will learn the basic mathematical principles on which these techniques are based. After completing this course, student will be able to apply these techniques not only in heat transfer problems, but also on any optimization problem they face during the course of their graduate studies and future research.
