 Grading

 Two Take-Home Projects/Midterm Exams, each 250 points

 Quizzes 200 points

 Final Exam 300 points

 Class Points  (optional class participation)

 The number ( ( sum of the above - Adjustment ) / 1000 ) * 100 )% determines your transcript grade.

  • Midterm exam questions are of a variety of forms and topics. They may be handwritten exercises or computer exercises to be done using Mathematica, Matlab, Maple, or other software. You are given enough information and instructions during the class session to be able to do the midterm exams.

  • Solution set of each midterm exam should be submitted before the specified deadline ( time and date ). A delayed midterm exam gets -50 points per day.

  • You can seek help and consultation in preparing solutions to the midterm exams. However, the solutions you submit must be in your own handwriting and must be your own work. A low score on quizzes and the final exam is an indication  that midterm exams have been prepared by copying. To account for copying, the following adjustment are made to the transcript grade:

Sum of Scores on Quizzes and Final Exam

    Adjustment

    350-500

    250-350

  • During the semester ten quizzes are given, each scored on scale of 0-3:

    Half Complete

    Unsatisfactory

    Quiz not taken

  • The sum of seven highest quiz scores is multiplied by 10 to make your Quizzes score. No makeup quiz is given given, so you are recommended not to miss quizzes, and save the three-lowest-quiz-drop feature for unexpected, valid reasons of absence.

  • The class sessions are highly interactive. You are encouraged to answer questions raised during the discussions, and for your answers, you can get up to 2 Class Points per session.

  • Final exam is 100 points, and comprehensive; covering all material discussed during the semester. It is held at the time, date, and location officially announced by the university.

  • A large number of exercises are given during discussions in class sessions. Their solutions are not collected, but are discussed in class sessions as far as time permits. You are expected to solve as many of them, and as many of the exercises in the textbook, as you can and find time.

  • Exercises assigned are of various natures and content; they may be handwritten exercises or computer exercises to be done by Mathematica, Matlab, Maple, etc. You are given enough information and instructions during the class session to be able to do the exercises.
