Quantum  Information

  • This is part II of a one year course which I teach for graduate students of physics who want to do research in quantum computation and information. The first part mainly focuses on the basics of quantum computation, this part deals mostly with quantum information and various new topics.
  • Prerequisites:
  • Familiarity with Quantum Computation course is highly recommended. Knowledge with basic principles of quantum mechanics is absolutely necessary. In contrast to the previous programs, I assume that students, even non-physics students have such familiarity. Those who have not taken a course in quantum mechanics, can first go through the lecture notes of quantum mechanics.

  • Source: The main source that I will use is the following book

Lectures on Quantum Information, edited by Dagmar Bruß and Gerd Leuchs,

which is a collection of very good pedagogical articles on various topics.

  • Contents:
    • Classical Information Theory
    • Quantum Information Theory
    • Quantum Cloning
    • Theory of Entanglement
    • Quantum Channels and maps
    • Continuous variable states,
    • Models of quantum computation

  • A list of helpful references may be:
    • Introduction to Quantum Computation and Information, Nielson and Chuang
  • Weekly schedule: Sunday and Tuesday 10:30 to 12:30 am
