Mehrzad Namvar attended Alborz High School in Tehran and received BSC and MSC in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in 1991 and 1996, respectively. From 1996 to 2001 he attended the Grenoble Institute of Technology (INPG) in France where he received PhD on Control systems in 2001. His PhD thesis entitled Interaction between identification and control, was carried out in Grenoble Automatic Laboratory (LAG).

During 2001-2004 he was a visiting Researcher at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in Montreal, working on Space robotics and control. During 2004-2006 he was Research associate in the faculty of Engineering and Computer science in Concordia University, offering courses on Control system theory. From 2005 to 2016 he was a faculty member of the Control group in the Department of Electrical Engineering in Sharif university of Technology. He is recipient of French government fellowship in 1996 and Canadian Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) fellowship in 2001. His research interests span the areas of Robotics, Rigid-body attitude/position control, Nonlinear and Robust control.
